media center and media player

What is the difference? I download music and it goes to a media player then
i have to select everything to add it to my media center, is there an esier
way? Do i need to use both? Why dont my downloads go directly to my media
center? We are confussed with both of these. please help.

right click a song, click 'open with' and choose 'select standard program'
