Transfer cassette camera videos to new Vista computer

I have an old pre digital video camera "video8" handycam. I need to transfer
all my camera cassette videos to my new computer running Vista home 32bit.
What cables, software do I need to do this? How can I do this?
I'm 63yo so am not up to date with all this new stuff, thanks for you help.

You need hardware for analogue/digital conversion. There are many
possibilities. The cheapest (and a very good one in my experience) is the
Plextor PX-AV200U video converter. Apart from that you need a good program
that can handle the conversion, I use Presto Videoworks. I don't know
whether WMM can handle, in my case WMM doen't respond to the signal from the
A/D convertor. I am 67.....
