DVD Shrink Error
Hi ya,
does anyone know what the following error means in DVD Shrink?
Failed to Read D:\
Data Error - Cyclic Redundancy Check

This happens when I am trying to analyse the DVD before copying. I don't
usually have any problems, but encountered this error recently.

Thanks to any suggestions.

Re: DVD Shrink Error

Cyclic Redundancy Checks typically mean that the media being read is
corrupt.

Re: DVD Shrink Error
It means that the data on the disc is different from the data read from the
disc. CRC checks are a faster alternative to doing byte-for-byte comparisons
of data in two different locations. CRC checks are not foolproof but
compute faster than, say, MD5 checksums. Perhaps you have a dirty or
scratched disc. When you see this, take out the disc and clean it with
Windex and toilet paper (or the equivalent).

I recently saw this very error attempting to clone a dvd using Slysoft's
CloneDVD. I took the disc out, cleaned it and tried again. Fortunately the
error went away.

It's usually good policy to clean ALL dvds BEFORE attempting to rip them.

Happy Ripping!
