I can hear my movies but media player doesnt open to see them

Usually when i first start my computer or after using media center if i try
and open a video file, usually any type, i can hear the video but media
player doesnt open and i have to go to task manager and shut it down. when i
restart the video after shutting media player down it works without a
problem. i am running vista ultimate 64, quad core, 8gb of ram, 1.2tb of hard
drives, creative x-fi extreme audio, 2 tv tuners 1 ati 550 and 1 avertv combo
with media center remote, i have downloaded the k lite mega codec pack for
any codec issues, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you click the shortcut to the player does it show up properly?
