Movie Maker Playback Screen (Vista)

I'm working on an English project on Movie Maker and I've finished it.

One problem though - though the individual imported clips play, nothing on
the timeline seems to work. The preview screen stays entirely black - I've
tried everything I can think of, even the Cut last clip trick, and nothing
works.

It has to be in for marking very soon, please could someone help me out? It
won't publish to DVD until I can get it to play.

I found there is a hotfix at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/945125/en-us#top
I haven't tried it yet but I have the same problem right now. r
