Photo's on CD R not showing

I am using Vista but have also tried this on a machine running XP. Someone
copied some photo's onto cd for me but when I try to access them it won't let
me, it shows a shortcut link which just brings up the standard windows
pictures and when clicking on properties it shows that there is 22.8 MB of
the disk as having been used.
I have tried different software to try to open them that way
Any ideas anybody please ?

open them with Irfanview?
