Why can't my deleted photos STAY DELETED?

I was doing some photo editing and savied photos to my desktop. After I was
finished with them, I DELETED them from my desktop, but when I have to
"search" for a file/link on my desktop, and I am in "look in" I see those
photos that I deleted. Why can't the photos I deleted STAY DELETED from
everywhere??????
