cannot import avi due to data execution prevention

When I import avi files, movie maker is closed due to data execution
prevention. I tried to turn it off for movie maker, but turning it off for
movie maker is not allowed. The files are recorded on my digital camcorder,
the DXG-506V digital camcorder. The files play just fine on Windows Media
Player 10. Any suggestions?

What video codec does the clip use? It sounds like you have a bogus codec
or filter on your system.

What specific codecs/codec packs have you installed to this system?

Just a quick note about the annoying DEP problem when certain avi files
are in the folder being displayed in Windows Explorer. I removed
(uninstalled) Pinnacle and the problem immediately disappeared. I
didn't really use Pinnacle anyways so no big deal to lose it, but much
happier now that Windows Explorer doesn't DEP everytime the folder
contains a certain avi file.
BTW, it would only DEP when the folder contained an avi file from my
Canon digital camera. Other avi files (like movies from bit torrent
downloads) never caused a DEP at all. Must mean that certain CODECs
cause the DEP, I guess.
