does anyone know how to avoid that wav convert to wma?

Hello.
I have a big problem with that the music-files automatically convert to wma.
I do music with wav-files and cannot do anything with wma-files (which i
would happily be without). Does anyone know how to prevent that my wav-files
transform into wma-files?
I am deeply disappointed with the Vista-version of windows. But i can't do
much about it right now.

What do you mean? Which program changes the wav files? I work with Cool Edit
Pro which saves/retrieves the wav files normally.
