Media Player suddenly stopped working!
so recently my MP just stopped playing .avi and mpg video files. It still
plays wvm tho. I'm pretty sure it's not a codec problem.

Here is the error i get when i try to play

How did ffdshow.ax get on your system? Whomever installed that to your
system installed an extremely old buggy trashy version. Uninstall that and
you should start working again.

I would love to know what software did this to you so that they could be
advised to stop doing that.

Sorry about the really late reply..
When you say uninstall it - do you mean just delete it?? And i've no idea
how it got on the pc... i don't even know what it is!

ps - how did you find out that ffdshow.ax was the problem!?

Did you uninstall some random codec pack? Looks like you did. Which one?
I'm working on identifying extra bad ones.

Just a very educated guess. You could determine this yourself using the
Windows Debugging Toolkit.

You could delete it, it'd be better to uninstall or unregister it though. =\

I downloaded the latest K-Lite codec pack and when installing it lets you
remove/repair broken codecs which it did. it's all working now tho - thanks
alot for your help!
