Runtime error 217, and others

Hi, I am always getting runtime error 217 on my PC. I also have issues with
opening the photo folders and if I try and open a video all of windows shuts
down, could this runtime error be the cause? I run HP Pavillion 8750, Vista
Prem. I am new to fixing so please be very detailed. Thankyou for any help
offered.
