Cannot preview AVI files

Recently something changed on my system meaning that when I am in a folder of
videos I can no longer see a thumbnail preview for an avi file without
opening WMP. Other formats play in preview (mpg wmv) but avi just say "no
preview available". Any ideas of what could have changed this and how to
change it back?

Did you install or uninstall some third party multimedia software? It
sounds like somebody hijacked the preview handler...
