How to play DVD on hard drive

I have copied a dvd from a disc to my hard drive. I put it in video folder
Media centre will find the folder and atempt to open it.
It will play all other video.
Then says the folder is empty but it isn't.
So, how can i get media centre to play a dvd from hard drive.
I have alo tried it through xbox 360 media centre. Same thing. The folder is
there but it is empty

How did you copy it. If by file then windows programs won't play vob files.
You can rename them to avi then windows will happily play them (it decides
if it will play them based on name, however if the name is changed then it
doesn't check if but how it will play). But you loose all DVD features like
menu etc.
