Media player won't open

Home premium, wireless network amd athlon 64bit dual core 3800+ asus A8N-E
all drivers present and correct

I cannot open Media player either normally or as administrator. All files
are in correct location but I cannot even setup media player as I get a
message telling me that it is already installed

i have the same problem... every time i try and open a mp3 or anything with media player it gives me a error message saying that wmp.dll is not a recognized windows file...then it tells me to go to the Microsoft website and reinstall wmp 11...but it only has it for xp.

so i went looking around my pc and found the set up for wmp 11 in the install folder and it tells me it is already installed so i cant reinstall.

media center has also stopped working because of this.

i tried updating drivers (realtek,soundblaster,ati) i tried numerous reboots.. theres seems to be no way of removing wmp 11 from vista...what do i do?

I have exactly the same issue. What's weird is that the Media Player core
function works out of the OS within Outlook, in that I can access and play
things via the attachment preview issue. Likewise, I can play streaming media
via a Web browser. But WMP itself is completely nonfunctional.

Everything's fine on one box, and everthing's toast on the other. On the
latter box, I'm using Real until someone figures out a fix.

I resolved it.

I ran a prog called Vista manager from Yanicsoft and it cleaned out the
redundant file entries and registry and now media player works just fine.
