I don't know about the MIDI question but if you're doing audio in Vista and
not using signed drivers you may end up having problems. As part of the DRM
built into Vista, audio quality may be limited or audio may not work at all
with unsigned Vista drivers.
I suggest contacting the specific software providers you're referring to.
