Burning rec TV to DVD

Has anyone successfully managed to burn a recorder tv program to DVD yet and
play it on a standalone DVD machine?

Firstly I tried using Media Centre burn to DVD feature but after a couple of
minutes, a pop-up box said that media centre had stopped working and that
was that. Tried again but got the same result.

I then tried using Nero and also Windows DVD maker. Both these programs
burned the program, but when I tested it in my home DVD player, the sound is
ok, but the video is like it's in slow motion.
