WMP - sorting files
In the library section of WMP, where all my ripped albums are displayed and
you can choose to sort them by artist, album, songs, genre etc. and view them
as 'icon', 'title' or 'details', on some of the sorting methods, alphabetical
dividers have appeared rather than the albums being simply being in
alphabetical order as they would be in an ordinary folder. These dividers
appeared a few days ago (I don't know what I did to make them appear) and
they mean that there is a lot of wasted space in the window resulting in a
hell of a lot more scrolling up and down (and I use the library a lot) so
does anyone know how to get rid of these alphabetical dividers?

Re: WMP - sorting files
You have grouping turned on. Mouse over the 'Name' header in the right-hand
pane, click the drop-arrow that appears, and click 'Sort'.

You say that as though there was a way to turn off the Group Detail Header.

Not sure what you're saying...

Selecting 'Sort' turns off grouping.

Re: WMP - sorting files
Can you be specific? Did you look at the OP's image? Those headers are
called Group Detail Headers according to MS and, AFAIK, cannot be turned
off. It has been the topic of many heated debates in the WMP newsgroups and
not even folks from Microsoft have ever mentioned selecting "Sort" to turn
it off. If you know a way and can be specific, I'd love to know how to turn
it off.

Re: WMP - sorting files
Mea Culpa!!

I looked at the capture but mistook it for an explorer window :-s

You're right. I can't find anything in the registry to alter that behavior.
