iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
Since I switched to Vista, my iTunes seems to have "locked" all music files
in the Music Library which I keep on an external hard drive, all 90 GB of it.
I can play music using iTunes and add files to the Library, however I am no
longer able to make any changes to the file like corect spelling of the
track, track number, etc. (which can usually be done by right-clicking on the
song and selecting "Get info"). Also, if I delete a track, it disappears from
the iTunes window but remains in the Library (even when I confirm that it
should be deleted completely).
If anyone ever experienced something like this, I will appreciate any
suggestions on how to get around this frustrating issue. I do not know if it
has to do with Vista but never had this problem before.

Re: iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
Sounds like an issue better researched in Apple's forums. But Apple has
said they are working on the issues. Apparently, they got the memo late
that Microsoft was working on a new operating system.

Re: iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
They are working on a fix, but it is a known problem.

Apple recommends not using iTunes with Windows Vista until they release a
new version in a couple of weeks.

RE: iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
I think when Microsoft sent the EMAIL to MAC regarding the fact that they
were working on a new operating system the message was sent directly to the
Junk Mail folder. I too have my IPOD sitting idle until the upcoming fix to
Itunes comes out. You can find a temporary fix on the Apple website (under
Support) but it did not work for me.

RE: iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
Make sure you give either administrator or full control rights for your user
account to your iTunes music folder and before you start iTunes. Right click
on the folder, go to properties, and security - this is where you can give
full control rights to various user accounts. Also, if you click on Advanced
under the Security tab, you can take "ownership" of the file with your
account. When you go to run iTunes, right click and pick "Run as
Administrator" Also, you can "repair" iTunes by running the iTunes setup
file downloaded from Apple as an administrator and selecting the "repair"
option.
When I e-mailed Apple customer support, all they said was basically "Don't
use iTunes until we release a patch". Yeah right.

RE: & Sony Walkman
I have a sony HD walkman that uses Sonicstage/ Connect (no Vista compatable
drivers or software seems available on their website, and Sony has not
responded to my email requesting help) it doesn't work either and all my
music files (including my own recordings!!!) have locked me out as the pc no
longer recognises me as an owner so i cannot transfer music on or from the
walkman.

RE: iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
Thank you for the tip. It partially resolved my IPod problem. It allowed me
to get my CD music back on the IPod but it still refuses to install my music
purchased on ITunes. But, still progress was made.

RE: iTunes acting weird since Vista is installed
Glad it least partially worked. The other thing that might help with
purchased music is to make sure you are running iTunes as administrator
again, go into your iTunes account and deauthorize your computer. Then click
on a purchased song to play it and iTunes will ask if you want to authorize
the computer to play songs from the iTunes store. Enter your password and if
it works it will say that your computer is authorized. If it doesn't work,
the account login and password will keep popping up on the screen. If this
happens then you are stuck waiting for Apple to release a new version of
iTunes. But, if you are able to get the machine authorized for iTunes, you
will be able to transfer your purchased music to your iPod as well

Actually, Apple has recommended "that customers wait to upgrade Windows
until after the next release of iTunes". Subtle difference.
