Movie Maker Produces Widescreen

I am baffled with MM. My camera produces AVI files at 640x480 Xvid and edit
well in MM. However, when I publish to WMV I get a stretched out image in the
upper half of the Media Player frame I assume is a wide screen format.
Properties shows 640 x 480 but this does not seem to be the case. How do I
produce a correctly proportioned edited video?
