problem installing itunes - can't create "installer cache" directo

Itunes used to work on my computer. It stopped working and I uninstalled it
but am having trouble reinstalling it.

I keep getting a message which reads "an error occured while attempting to
create the directory c:\ programdata\apple\installer cache".

I've tried saving the setup file on my desktop and running it as
administrator but the same message appeared. I've tried downloading the
latest updates of vista but this made no difference. I've also tried
disabling some items using the msconfig, which hasn't worked either.

Does anybody know what this means or how I can solve this problem?

Did you or anyone else find a solution to this problem, I have the exact same problem. I've followed apples suggestions for uninstalling and reinstalling.

Well just to report back in case anyone else has a problem with uninstalling/installing itunes.

I also got the error insufficient privileges c:\programData\Apple Computer\itunes\sc info

I uninstalled itunes and related apple programmes using "windows instal clean up". I restarted and then cleaned the registry using ccleaner.

I then entered "msconfig" in the command box, and on the general tab i selected "selective start up" and checked the boxes "Load system services, load start up items, use original boot configuration". I then restarted the machine.

On restart i went to c:\programData and on the folders Apple and Apple computer I "took ownership". This is a function on my right button drop down menu.

I then followed the suggestions here: windows vista general Error message: insufficient privileges to modify this file

Then I reinstalled itunes switchless.

Now I know this info isn't filled with links and the correct terminology but i'm not an expert. But this itunes error was driving me mad. And doing the above solved the problem like a dream.

If you have more expertise and know what I did in particular in the above to solve the problem please reply so that others might benefit.
