WMP wont auto launch streamed video

best solution i have found is i installed firefox and it sends what ever
file you are trying to open to the appropriate program. example: click
on a link that a wma link and windows player opens! imagine that!

I too have posted the problem in several forums and newsgroups, both
Microsoft and elsewhere. No one from MS seems remotely interested in this
apparently widespread problem :-(
I can't prove it easily (if at all), but I believe the problem was
introduced by something in the August "patch Tuesday" package or the
additional update that was issued shortly after that..
Anyone have problems prior to August?

i installed firefox and it works in firefox.
