Crashing DVD Maker

I am trying to burn a movie using Windows DVD Maker.
The file I am trying to burn is AVI. Sometimes the program crashes
after I add the file and try to move to the next step. Other times, the
program crashes just after pushing "Burn", at .1% or .2% encoding.

I don't understand what is wrong, but if someone could help, that would
be great. Also very detailed instructions on what to do would be
appreciated as I mostly don't know what I am doing when it comes to this
kind of stuff.

If that is your crash report, that's a crash in FFDShow. Either uninstall
or update that and you should stop getting that crash. It's evidently
against FFDShow version 1.0.0.1, which indicates somehow you got an
extremely extremely old version onto your system... ?

I only got this laptop this spring, how did a very old version get on
it...

I don't know what FFDShow is...I assume it is a program. Is it worth
keeping and updating? How would I go about unistalling it (I can't even
find it)?

Is the file ffdshow.ax on your system?

Most codec packs are stupid and dangerous. If you had installed a codec
pack at any point, your system is no longer what I would consider especially
stable. That would be the most likely avenue for an old version of FFDShow
(or other nastiness) to have been installed to your system.
