"now playing" screen on Media Player

Trying to play dvd on Media Player. Blue screen comes up when hitting "now
playing", shows scenes at top with words at bottom: previors==play==next.
When I hit play, the scenes stay and there are horizontal fuzzy bars on the
whole screen, and the audio on the dvd is playing. How do I get to a regular
picture?
