Playing dvd on media player

I have been copying my old VHS tapes to DVD on-R, then finalizing. I was
able to play them on my computer and then all of sudden, when I try to play
back on the Media Center, the screen shows the scenes, but either nothing
happens when I hit play, or the scene choices stay on the screen, and a
distorted play of dvd is superimposed on the screen. What might I be doing
wrong?

How do they play back in Windows Media Player?
