Please help I've got Sound Problems
Please help, I've had a new laptop with Vista Home Premium pre-installed.
I thought I was ok with IT. How wrong I was! I am really struggling to get
on with Vista. One of my problems is, I can't get sound only pictures from
some files e.g. from video camera, phone etc. But, cds, mp3's etc do work.
I've tried changing the player, installing new drivers . My head is
spinning, please can someone put me in the right direction
Thank you
Sandal

Re: Please help I've got Sound Problems
What file formats are affected?
Do WMV files work? Do AVI files work? Do MPEG files work?

Re: Please help I've got Sound Problems
Hi zachd,
The mp3, m4a, aap and 3gp files do work
But, the .mov and .torrent files don't.
Cheers

Re: Please help I've got Sound Problems
How are you attempting to play those files that don't work?
..torrent is not a media file type. It's just a method for obtaining some
random file.
..mov is to be played back by the QuickTime Player only, really.

Re: Please help I've got Sound Problems
That makes sense: if it doesn't work in QuickTime Player, it's not likely to
work elsewhere. You would want to look into QuickTime support for problems
with .mov files. =\

RE: Please help I've got Sound Problems
I've had the same problem, and haven't found a solution yet. I have many
..mpg files on my old computer running xp pro. They play fine on that
computer, but if I put them on this one (with Vista), they lose the sound.
I've tried playing them in Windows Media Player, as well as burning them to
DVDs and playing them in my DVD player. Neither one works, and they both
seem to be the same problem. Video, no sound. When I move them from that
computer to this one, then back, they don't have sound on that computer.

RE: Please help I've got Sound Problems
I have had similar problems with sound not playing with a video file.
Primarily in .MOV files from QuickTime. I found that if I open the original
file in QuickTime Pro and export the file as a .AVI file the sound and video
play fine on all my players i.e. Nero, VLC media player, Windows Media
Player, etc.

RE: Please help I've got Sound Problems
I have the same problem. Video from my Sony DCR-SR80 create .mpg files and
when I use Windows Media Player I don't have any sound. I can play it on
other applications just fine. Did you ever find a solution?

Re: Please help I've got Sound Problems
It sounds like a codec issue...you either don;t have the correct single
codec...or you have installed one of those mega codec packs...
