The best thing to do is ignore them.

If you are not willing to just ignore them, the only way is to delete both
copies of the database (which does not contain the messages, but only
references to them) and let WinMail rebuild it.
First close WinMail, then use Task Manager to make sure there are no
instances of it under applications or processes.
Then click Start | Search | Advanced Search
Check the box to include non-indexed, hidden and system files.
In the Name field type WindowsMail.MSMessageStore and click the Search
button.
It should show you two copies. Delete both of them and re-open WinMail.
WinMail will work in the background and recover all of the messages that are
really there.

Although some people have said they lost all messages doing this, WinMail
should recover them in the Recovered Messages folders.

Re: Cannot delete an item in my inbox,
There are so many bugs in Windows Mail I cannot believe Microsoft didn't pick
these up during product testing. One minute I can read an e-mail, next time I
try to open it I'm told me there is an error and I can do nothing with it.
I've got an e-mail stuck in my Outbox and it is preventing me from sending
e-mails in the conventional way. Trying to use WMUtil only causes further
problems on my PC, and you need to have Winzip loaded to unzip the files.
Someone should take Microsoft to court for selling a product of
unmerchantable quality. Thousands of man hours every day must be wasted by
users just trying to solve the issues.
What a pile of rubbish!!!

Re: Cannot delete an item in my inbox,
Yes, Windows Mail is buggy.
However, if your issue is restricted to having a stuck email in the
outbox, WMUtil should have fixed it. Windows has a built-in
unzipping function, no need for WinZip.

Microsoft has stated that Windows Live Mail is the replacement for
Windows Mail. Why not accept that?

First of all, you don't need WinZip. Vista can unzip the files.

You say that WMUtil causes other problems on your machine, but you don't
tell us what these are?
