Cannot send or reply email w/ Windows Vista Home, Help!

I just got a new laptop and I cannot send or reply to any emails. The
computer will not even allow me to put the cursor in the section where you
write the email. I am no computer expert, can anyone give me any
suggestions? Also, I am not running Norton or MacAfee, but I am running
Trend and Spy Sweeper which they recommended.

Down load another mail reader ie. Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird.
Do you know how to set up a mail reader to send & receive mail?
WM appears to have a few problems.
