Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
How do I fix this problem? I can see that I have 21 new messages in my
Inbox, but when I highlight my Inbox, the text reads "There are no items in
this view." That same comment appears in all my folders as well. Thank you.

Re: Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
If you are running either McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall them
because they are not compatible with Windows Mail.

Re: Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
Terrific - uninstalling McAfee absolutely resolved the problem. Now I feel
very "exposed" to viruses, etc. I have called a couple of antivirus
companies and asked "Is your application compatible with MS Windows Mail in
Vista?" so I don't have this problem again! Both say "yes," but how do I
know? Can people recommend products on these posts? I need to buy some
Antivirus software that works with MS Mail! Thanks!

Re: Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
There is Avast,AVG both are free. Installing any Anti Virus to Windows Mail has to be installed without the email integration. In other words do not install with email scanning that checks your incoming and outgoing mail. The resident AV will still protect you.

Re: Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
My Wife now has a similar problem with her Inbox. All new emails are not
showing - there is just the message " There are no items in this view"
however emails in all other folders show as normal. There are new emails in
the Inbox as it shows the total in brackets to the right of it. Even in
sub-folders within the Inbox they show ok - it's just new emails in the Inbox
folder that aren't showing. This has been working fine since we got the
Laptop a year ago - with Norton Internet Security installed - so I'm guessing
that somehow she has accidentally changed a setting - but can't for the life
of me work out what.

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
does it also say "... Some items may be hidden because a view is applied."?
The view setting for the Inbox may be set to "hide read messages".
View - current View - show all messages

Re: Blank messages in MS Mail under Vista
Assuming your Current View setting is Show All Messages, the
next most likely culprit is your antivirus.
Norton antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
Symptoms often don't start until months later.
The only way you can prove or disprove that Norton is the culprit is to
uninstall it, followed by using their debris removal tool:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support...05033108162039

Another option is to upgrade to Windows Live Mail, which is more
resistant to the adverse effects of aggressive antivirus products:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:
