Coordinating Outlook for E-Mail and Windows Mail for News Groups

I am using Microsoft Outlook as my default e-mail program on Home Premium
32-bit Vista. I have Outlook set as the default program for all files types
that it deals with.

However, to follow several news groups I have to use Windows Mail (or is
there another way to interact with news groups?) On several occasions I have
received mail on Windows Mail. These were e-mails that had nothing to do
with news groups. I don't know if this was just because I had Windows Mail
open at the time the emails came it, or for some other reason such as right
after a Microsoft standard update.

I do not want to receive ANY incoming e-mail on Windows Mail. I want to
receive it all on Outlook.

I used Windows Mail, Tools, Accounts to remove the email account and keep
the server accounts. I hope that will stop the reception on any incoming
e-mail. So far it has.

But now I can no longer reply privately to a poster on a news group,
althought I can reply to the group. Is there a way I can send out such
e-mails from Windows Mail but not receive any incoming e-mails?

Is there a way to set the system so that when I choose 'Reply to Sender'
from the news group menu, an Outlook e-mail message form will be brought up
instead of a Windows Mail form?

Also, when I reply to the group I get a popup box that asks if I want to
send the message to 'all members of the group'. What does that mean? Does it
mean that the message is sent to the group and the original poster? Does it
mean that it is sent privately to everybody who subscribes to the group?

It seems to me that this is another instance of very poor design on the part
of Microsoft. Do they assume that people that use Outlook never use news
groups?

I believe we ran across this issue once before, perhaps two months
ago. When replying to a newsgroup poster, Windows Mail wants to
handle the email reply internally instead of handing the chore off
to the default email program. I don't think there is a workaround.

I don't get the popup you get.

Remove the mail account from Windows Mail (Tools | Accounts).
