1. Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident program.
Beside that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail.
2. Are you sure those are the correct settings for BTImtermet? Check their
Web page and use the instructions for Outlook Express.

Re: Windows Mail - cannot receive or send
I too have had the same problem after the automatic update of Vista Home.
Not only was I unable to access my emails, but I was also unable to access
the internet - I wasn't even able to access my router. I think that the
problem lies with 2 of the updates - KB933566 for Internet Explorer and
KB929123 for Windows Mail. I uninstalled both updates and was then able to
access my emails and use the internet normally. I then reinstalled both
updates and the problem returned. I have now uninstalled these updates
again and have set them as hidden updates to prevent this problem again.

If you have Norton or McAfee uninstall them.

Re: Windows Mail - cannot receive or send
Hi all,
Noticed the same problem after the automatic windows mail update a
couple days ago.
I just tried the following and it seems to have corrected the problem.
It's a fix taken from
"http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3"
It's important to follow the instructions in the last paragraph
carefully.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
WINDOWS MAIL in VISTA: People are experiencing huge problems with
Windows Mail in Vista due to antivirus software.
In most cases, it is sufficient to turn off email scanning (incoming
and outgoing) and then remove your Email account, close and reopen
Windows Mail, and then add your email account back again. However, in
some circumstances, it is necessary to uninstall the antivirus software
completely, as it is not compatible with Windows Mail (McAfee for
instance is an example of this). If you encounter compatibility
problems when email scanning is disabled, then find another antivirus
program. There are plenty out there that do not impair the
functionality of Windows Mail.
-AFTER TURNING OFF EMAIL SCANNING, REMOVE YOUR MAIL ACCOUNTS, THEN
CLOSE AND REOPEN OE OR WINMAIL, AND THEN ADD YOUR ACCOUNTS BACK AGAIN.
THIS WILL \"FIX\" ANY CHANGES THAT THE ANTIVIRUS SOFTWARE MADE TO THE
ACCOUNT SETTINGS. -
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Good luck

Re: Windows Mail - cannot receive or send
The turning off of the e-mail scanning and removing and adding the account
didn't help. How do I uninstall Norton?
