upgrade to vista...lost my mail

I upgraded to vista home basic, did not backup anything and lost all my mail
(approx 1200 emails, some important) anybody know where to look???all my
contacts are intact.

it was outlook express from office 2000

Outlook Express comes with IE6 and earlier, not Office. Office 2000 comes
with Outlook 2000.
To Import from Outlook Express, in WinMail click File | Import | Messages.
