Send/Receive in Windows Mail

Would really welcome some help here.
Apolgies if I'm not very technical but basically I have a new laptop with
vista home premium and the windows mail program wont send e-mails or receive
them. They dont even show in the outbox and nothing at all happens when I
click send/receive. However if I shut the mail program down and re-open it
works fine again until I compose another message.

if you have norton or mcafee virus programs installed, most likely the problem.

turn off email scanning in the virus program and see if it helps.

Thanks for that tip and I have Norton installed but having disabled e-mail
scanning it made no difference. I'm running a business from home and this
e-mail sitaution is really causing me serious problems. Any other advice ??

Quite a few people have reported here that they had no relief
until they completely uninstalled their antivirus program
(McAfee or Norton's). Try that. Also, are you using any other kind
of third party security software such as firewall, anti-spam, anti-
malware, etc.? As a last resort, install a different email program
such as Thunderbird, or wait for Microsoft to release Windows
Live Mail in the next few days.
