-- Is it Brink or Shawn? Tried your link again. It downloaded to my
"downloads" folder. I clicked to run and my window went berserk and I had to
shut down and restart. Only one file showed - WMUtil.zip
As per your "clearer instructions, they are only clear to someone who
already knows what they're about. I was at this site previously and got
bogged down because "Winmail.exe" is not in Task Manager. As per the
instructions, when I tried to run it ( Step 3) that's when I had to shut down.
What now? Thanks for your concern. Wayne. PS - When I downloaded this
same thing another time it was a website and "run" kept sending me back to
where I got it.

As Winston indicated, you need to open up the zip file and extract the two
files from it (e.g. to the Desktop). Then you can run the program. See
also the part in red on the website.

Hi Wayne,
It's both, Shawn Brink. Are you having problems opening any other ZIP
files? Try opening another ZIP file and see if you are. Let me know
and I'll help on that if it will not open either without problems.
When you click on the WMutil.zip, after downloading, it should open
another window showing the two files. From here you would click the
*Extract* button (Icon) at top. It will again open another window and
select *Extract All* from bottom part of window. Just save them both in
the same location to where you want. Then run the WMutil.exe from where
you saved it & the other file. As for the Winmail.exe and Task manager,
it will only be listed if you had Windows Mail open and/or Windows Mail
is still running a process even though it's closed. You can then just
skip down to the next step.
If all else fails, you can go to the same link I posted and do the
RESET WINDOWS MAIL.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
P.S.
I updated the Tips post again to help with what you had trouble with.
Let me know if that looks easier. Thank you.

Brink. I have it figured out from the "extract" step, so we can let that
rest. But computer still goes nuts when I try to open. Did have that problem
with an icon once recently. Comes out OK with Avast. Any suggestions? Thanks,
Wayne

Ok,
Are you using Vista's built in Zip handler or are you using a 3rd party
one like Winzip, WinRar, etc? Does it go nuts when you open the Zip or
EXE? If Zip, does it do it for all Zip files you try to open or just
this one? Plus, do you receive any error messages?
I'm assuming your using Vista's built in one. Give this a try at the
link if you are and if it's going nuts when your opening the Zip. It'll
reset Zip back to Vista's default.
Brink. Followed link instructions and got the black administrator box, which
stopped everything right then. My computor is jinked! No instructions I get
work; not only for this problem but others I have on the go. Followed "How to
Geek" on removing idiotic, redundant arrow on desktop shortcuts and now have
large white folders in place of arrows. This was the other case where my comp
went nuts.
As to your other Qs, I have no other zip files or any other related prog
to do with zip that didn't come with my machine. Except for a few cds there
is nothing saved. My computer is a virgin.
A new problem - I'm not getting notification from these sites although I
clicked yes to receive. My Email is otherwise working.
Is there a way out of my mess? Do appreciate your help. Thanks, Wayne

Ok,
Well, It seems like you have a variety of problems. I hate to say
this, but it might be faster for you to reinstall Vista than to try and
hunt down each little problem. Check your notifications for your
settings at this site to see if you have Immediate notification
selected.
For your shortcut arrow problem scroll down at this link until you see
:
*::How to change or remove the shortcut arrow without problems::*
*_::::_*
'_http://www.vistax64.com/tricks-n-tips/24315-expanded-shortcut-menus.html_'
XP & Vista have to be done in a separate way for the arrow. Sounds
like you might if done the XP by mistake. Any way this may help you.
Brink. Thanks for everything. I have some pondering to do as to my next
course. My problems are many and irritating but reinstalling? That's drastic.
I have the disc and know how if I must.
For now I'll let you off the hook on this thread and you can help other,
more pressing, Vista owner's needs.
PS - Did I tell you that Dell reneged on their part of the contract that I
signed? There is no such thing as "next business day in house service for
one year". That is their main selling gimmick, but they lie! Tell everyone
you know, please.
See you in another thread. Wayne
