Re: deleted items folder will not empty
You've run into one of several things that can go wrong with
Windows Mail. There is no fix at this time.

Hi brymack,
There's no fix like Gary said, but you should be able to reset it.
Give this a try:
*Warning*: You will loose your E-mails, save the ones you want to keep
by using the Export/Import Messages option under *FILE *(in Windows
Mail).
1. close Windows Mail if open then (to make sure it's completely
closed)
A) press *Ctrl + Shift + Esc* (to open Task manager)
B) click on Processes tab
C) If listed then, click on *WinMail.exe *(If not, go to step 2)
D) click the *End Process* button
E) OK any confirmations
2. open Start Menu
3. in the white line (Start search) area type
*Windowsmail.MSMessageStore *(you should only see 2 instances listed)
4. right click each and *Delete* each instance
If for some reason you can't find the *Windowsmail.MSMessageStore*
files in the search, then make sure you have *Show hidden files &
folders* checked in folder options (Control Panel or TOOLS menu) and
delete them manually.
_File_locations_:
1. C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail
2. C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Mail\Backup
5. restart Windows Mail
6. Windows Mail will now rebuild your MessageStore
7. If you have message rules that were tied to a folder that you added
(ex: another folder under Inbox), you will need to add that folder again
and adjust you message rule to that folder again.
It is also reported that having the Empty deleted messages when exiting
helps in preventing this.
1. click on Tools (In Windows Mail)
2. click on Options
3. click on Advanced tab
4. click on Maintenance button (bottom right)
5. check *Empty messages from the 'Deleted Items' folder on exit*
6. click Close & then OK to apply
I hope this works for you,
Shawn
P.S.
Please post back with your results so I can make any adjustments for
this.

Hi Kate,
The best advice I can give you is to have your ISP (mail provider) walk
you through it. You'll need the names of their POP3 & SMTP servers. (EX:
mail.cableone.net) They can help you better since they will know all
the information that is for their ISP.
Regards,
Shawn

Re: deleted items folder will not empty
Your ISP should have a self-help web page that explains how to
set up a mail account in Outlook Express. Just follow those directions.

RE: deleted items folder will not empty
I am having the same problem and have tried going to tools, options, advanced,
maintenance, empty "deleted items'on exit"(did not work),cleanup now,remove
messages(worked but still have message headings), delete button(did not work).
Looks like MS entire mail system is faulty. Vista is continuing to screw up
in other programs as well.

Hi Paul,
Read the top portion at this link and do the section for "Stuck
messages in the Deleted Items folder. If this does not help, then so
the "To Reset Windows Mail" section. It will get rid of them for you.
http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/62...-problems.html
Without any information on your other programs, all I can suggest is to
make sure that they are compatibile with Vista before installing or use
the compatibility mode on them to see if that helps with them. You can
see how at this link.

Re: deleted items folder will not empty
You're right, Windows Mail is buggy. Replace it with WLM:
