Windows mail slowdown resolved.
My slowdown was caused by using SpywareBlaster's restricted sites list.
Disabling it got things back to normal.

I posted my problem on the SB forum and the following suggested change to my
Registry fixed the problem while still being able to use the restricted
list.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_MIME_SNIFFING]
"winmail.exe"=dword:00000001

I have to do some more research into this option to fully understand what it
is doing. But it works!
