if you go to VIEW select CURRENT VIEW and DEFINE, select the view of choice
and check the apply to all button and ok/apply it.

Once the group has been opened once and the view preference set, it will
stay that way every time the newsgroup is re-opened. Just a nuissance when
browsing newsgroups for the first time (deciding what to subscribe to) and
having to go back and change the view so that something will actually
display (this assuming that since it is the first time reading that group
that there are no messages marked to watch).
