Can not send or receive email
I have a new Compaq Presario with Windows Vista and windows Mail. I get
errors when trying to send and receive email.... it has never worked. ISP
says it is a Windows firewall issue and they do not know vista well enough to
help.
HP has not been able to help. I have allowed Windows Mail in the firewall
window for Microsoft? Any other suggestions?

Re: Can not send or receive email
As far as I know, we've never had a verified report of Windows Firewall
interfering with Windows Mail.
Have you read all the suggested fixes in this forum? First, take care
of any antivirus program issues. Then, if you still have problems, copy
the error messages and post them here.
Read and heed http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3
If you have McAfee or Norton antivirus, uninstall it. Then download
and install a non-intrusive antivirus program such as the free Avast.
Whichever new antivirus program you keep, be sure to disable
its email scanning option.

Re: Can not send or receive email
I had uninstalled Symantic Norton Anti virus, which came with the Laptop.
then added Free AVG. I just now disabled email scanning and rebooted... this
is the error messages (the same):

Re: Can not send or receive email
There are a couple of possibilities.
Norton Antivirus might already have corrupted your mail account before
you uninstalled it. So, add a new mail account with the same settings
as the old one, then delete the old account.
If that doesn't fix it, try this:
There is a new TCP tuning feature in Vista which is
not compatible with some servers.
a. Go to the Vista start menu and type cmd
b. The search results will display a program named "cmd"
c. Right-click on the link and select "Run as administrator"
d. type "netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled" without
the quotation marks
e. Test your POP account and see if you can now download your mail.
f. If nothing changes, re-enable the autotuning feature by typing
"netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=normal"
Please post back with the results.

Re: Can not send or receive email
I have tried to send mail and receive when I am connected and when I am not-
same error. And, yes I can access my email from cox.net/webmail- no
problems. I have also configured the servers per Cox's instructions. I just
wanted to be able to access it directly from this PC. I now have the email
scanning feature off also and same result.

Re: Can not send or receive email
How did you remove Norton. You cannot just uninstall it without using their Norton uninstall tool. Otherwise it will still create issues with leftovers all over the place in the registry
