After you install Outlook
WinMail can export to Outlook (Exchange).

Re: Transfering rules from Windows Mail to Outlook 2007
Frank,
why would I want to do that? I've upgraded to Outlook 2007 - and that
program will allow me to import rules into it. I just need to know where Mail
stores the rules - is it a file or just in the registry. If it is just in the
registry then how can I transfer them to Outlook 2007.
Thanks,
Vincenzo

I missed the word 'rules'. Sorry.
WinMail stores them in the Registry. I don't think there's a way to
transfer them to Outlook. The two programs are handled by different
programming teams that don't cooperate with each other.

Re: Transfering rules from Windows Mail to Outlook 2007
Thanks for the info Frank,
So if I've got this right I've got to find a way to export the rules from
Windows Mail to Outlook Exchange. Then can I export the rules from Outlook
Exchange to Outlook 2007?
Unfortunately I'm being a bit thick about this so you might need to spell
out what I need to do - especially if I've got to find a copy of Outlook
Exchange.
Many thanks,
Vincenzo

I don't know any way to export the rules. But you don't need a copy of
Exchange. When exporting you choose Exchange and then Outlook.

Re: Transfering rules from Windows Mail to Outlook 2007
As Frank says, message rules are stored in the registry, there's no way to
export or import them. As to Outlook Exchange, that line should read
Outlook/Exchange which means Outlook or Exchange (Outlook is the supplied
email client with Exchange Server, Microsoft's email server system).

Re: Transfering rules from Windows Mail to Outlook 2007
Hal,
Thanks for the message. So there's nothing I can do at all to get these
rules out of Mail and into something else?
Cheers,
Vincenzo

Re: Transfering rules from Windows Mail to Outlook 2007
The rules are in the registry (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx#wm) and you
can export the registry keys, but I don't know how Outlook handles the
rules.
