Can I import Outlook .PST files to Windows Mail?

Does Windows Mail have the ability to import Outlook files (MS Office XP
Small Business Outlook) into Windows Mail? I'd like to know before
configuring it.

Windows Mail can import from an Outlook PST file only if Outlook
is installed. WM needs the Outlook machinery to interpret the PST
file. You can do a temporary install of the free trial version of Office 2007.

What would be so hard about adding the import feature to WM?
Can I grab the appropriate installation bits from Outlook on my XP machine
and splice them into WM?

The import feature is there!
It just needs an interpreter in order to read the data from the
PST-file.

NO.
In order to read from the PST-file Outlook has to be installed.

I installed Office 2007 Outlook, ran WM and try to import the old Outlook
directory but still no joy. Do you have an instruction sheet?

What do you mean by "still no joy"?
Any error messages?

Way to go:
File | Import;
from the context menu select "Messages";
in the next dialog select "Microsoft Outlook";
then choose the profile;
click on OK;
then select the folders to be imported.

And is PST file you wish to import into Windows Mail now running in OL 2007?

NB: And you want to import the data into Windows Mail, you do NOT want to
export it (from OL) to Windows Mail.
