Re: Setting MSN email as default email in Vista
I think you are out of luck.
Clicking on an email link invokes what is called the
MAILTO protocol function. That function was designed
to work with an email client program. The MSN browser
is not an email client program.
It appears that this is one of many drawbacks of web mail.

yeah, I actually looked for the "mailto" and it isn't even listed
underprotocols...what the heck were they thinking? I have used that function
countless times in XP. I'm thinking about having it reinstalled.

Re: Setting MSN email as default email in Vista
In Vista, the default is for Windows Mail to be the MAILTO handler.
See Start menu > Default Programs.

Re: Setting MSN email as default email in Vista
yeah, I know that. Thank you, however, no longer want Microsoft Mail. My
MSN is not listed (on the left hand side) with all of the programs that I can
choose from as my default mail. Under "set programs and computer defaults",
under Microsoft Configurations, my MSN browser is not on the drop down, as a
matter of fact Gary, there is no drop down menue at all, just a button for
Microsoft Mail and nothing else.

So, how can my MSN premium browser be allowed to use my msn.com email
address as the default email program?? (thus the first post in the thread!)

What you want is for the "MailTo:" link to invoke your MSN Browser to access
your MSN Web Mail account. AFAIK, a "MailTo:" link can only invoke a mail
client. As the Vermont farmer told the visiting New York city slicker, "You
can't get there from here."

Re: Setting MSN email as default email in Vista
You may follow the steps below:

a. Open the MSN Premium but do not login.
b. Simultaneously press CTRL + SHIFT + F9 keys on Keyboard.
c. On the next screen click 'Yes Remove my information'.
d. You will get another screen asking if you want to remove all
of you Email contact and Calendar information. Click 'Yes'.
e. Close the MSN.
f. Sign in to MSN Premium again and 'click Mail and More'. You
will get a Window asking if you want to set MSN as your default Email
Program. Click 'Yes'.

Re: Setting MSN email as default email in Vista
Wayne,

Have you actually done this and confirmed that is resolves the problem?
When it asks if you want to remove all of you Email contact and Calendar
information does that mean that I will loose all that info? WIll I loose any
email saved?

Setting MSN as the default email service in Vista
Hello: Your instructions to solve this problem are for "MSN Premium".. I have MSN Dial-up and I don't get the confirmation option when I re-log into MSN Dail-up. Is there a solution for me? Thank You.
