Upgrading to Win7 removes Windows Mail
Those of you who will be trying out the just released beta
of Windows 7: be aware that if you upgrade over Vista, it
removes Windows Mail. If you want to do the Win7 upgrade,
I suggest you install Windows Live Mail first. That way it
keeps all your accounts, settings and emails.

I'm well aware of that little change between versions. Live mail is
already in use here along with the Live toolbar. You can also import
mail from other accounts but not send through all due to a few
limitations there.

Someone else already beat you to the punch line about that with the
article seen at 'Microsoft strips email and photo apps from Windows 7 |
News | Custom PC'

I'm sure the heads up is appreciated by those who might get blind sided by
it.

If you have an ISP account that normally sees mail come into the inbox
of Outlook, Outlook Express, or Windows Mail a substitute for those
accounts that won't be able to send and receive mail through Live Mail
is Mozilla's Thunderbird. 'Thunderbird - Reclaim your inbox'

With that you simply create the identical account with the user name
and password your ISP provides just like you would have with one of the
three named there. That will allow you to still download mail from the
ISP's mail server.

Re: Upgrading to Win7 removes Windows Mail
I certainly appreciate your posting of this as well.
Is this stripping of WM a permanent thing in Windows 7 or is it just because
it's a beta?
Thank you.

Re: Upgrading to Win7 removes Windows Mail
It's permanent.
It also strips Windows Photo Gallery and Windows Movie
Maker, but you can download the newer Live versions of
those programs also.

Hi

I treid the live mail a couple of times and looked everywhere for the 'leave a copy of mail on server' as I have a btyahoo account. It is not in the new Windows live mail using win7 beta? It doesn't leave mail by default either as I opened my other mail client and no messages.

Any ideas?

Re: Upgrading to Win7 removes Windows Mail
Its permanent. MS has decided to dumb down Windows.

In Windows 8 one will have to get Windows Live Calculator and Windows Live
Notepad. And in Windows 9 one will have to get Windows Live Windows.
