Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Hi Gary
I have been having this problem... previously by signing in passward I could
get on mail, this annoying request would appear sporadically... but today I
can not send any mails as the windows mail asks again and again for the logon
information (name of the account and password) I receive the mai but can not
send.
The antivirus I use is eset smart security
Have tried all your remedies except windows live mail - which i am afraid
to use...
can you help ?

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Did you configure your antivirus not to scan emails?
After doing so did you delete the account and recreate it?
You can also test your password by logging in to webmail.
If that works, it proves you have the correct username and password.
If you've tried all the suggestions, than the only thing left is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail . Not sure why you would be afraid to try it. If you have
specific concerns, I can probably put your mind at ease.

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
thanks Gary, for the time being I have disabled anti-virus (eset) and the
problem disappeared... now will re-install the antivirus excepting e-mail
coverage
Is there a serious risk in getting virus via e-mail after dismantling that
coverage ?

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
You definitely need to have an anti-virus program for your system, but you
don't need it to scan email.

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Good to hear that disabling email scanning cured the problem.
Even Symantec (Norton), the originator of the email scanning concept
admits that it is redundant and unnecessary:
"Is my computer still protected against viruses if I disable Email Scanning?
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses
that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect
scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email
and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this.
To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto- Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions."
