Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
No. A second address and all aliases get delivered to the same "inbox". My
plus account can be accessed either via the plus.pop server or the plain pop
server. I have one account in OE setup to poll via the plus server and two
others set to poll the plain pop server. Between the three I almost always
get my mail.

I understand your setup now, but I've run out of ideas as to what else
can be done to make your Yahoo mail more reliable. Maybe it's just
the nature of the beast. :-)

RE: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
I recently helped a friend with the same problem so I hope the following
information will help you…..
Open up your windows mail, click on tools and then accounts, highlight the
mail server you use (I.g pop.ntlworld.com) then click on properties and it
opens another window, click on servers and make sure all the details you have
for setting the account up are correct, then make sure the remember password
is ticked, “log on using secure password authentication” should be empty (not
ticked), then make sure “outgoing mail server” is ticked, then go into box
marked settings (on the same page) the box that says USE SAME SETTINGS AS MY
INCOMING MAIL SERVER should be ticked if not tick it, then click OK then
APPLY then OK again, close internet accounts window and you should be able to
use the windows mail without the hassle.
Good Luck and let me know if this works.

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
At last - someone with an answer that works in a situation where, like
me with Tiscali, you can have a primary E-mail/internet access account
and multiple alternative (alias ?) names (eg for family members). You
just have to set the Incoming Mail Server username & password on the
alternate E-mail accounts to be the same as on your primary account.
RE: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Same thing started today for me. I never had to logon before. Now all of a
sudden everytime I open up windows mail a box comes up saying
Windows Security:
logon to mail.lakefield.net
Please verify that both the username and password are correct for your mail
server.
I put in my username & password & make sure "Remember my credentials" is
marked. Plus in my account I have my password saved for both incoming &
outgoing mail. But for some reason it is not saving it all of a sudden. It is
getting frustrating to have to keep logging on everytime.
I have tried all I can think of. Can anyone shed some light on this problem?

RE: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Nevermind, I found a solution that works for the moment anyways, hopefully
for good. If you open windows explorer & go to
C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Protect
there is a folder there that has a bunch of numbers like S-1-5-393481413- &
so on, yours may have differant numbers but what you do is you delete that
folder then restart your computer, then restart windows mail & put in your
username & password, making sure you save it. A new folder should get created
to replace the one you deleted. Then it should work without putting in your
password everytime. Worked for me anyways.

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Dear Mr. VanderMolen: I have done all of the various suggestions including
recreating an email account, checking and unchecking boxes for
authentication. Also, I deleted any traces of McAfee and Norton and
installed the security program you recommended (avast). Any other ideas?
Thanks. Joyce

Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
Please, call me Gary. We're pretty informal here. :-)
Joyce, I looked around but did not see a detailed problem statement from
you. This thread was started by someone else ("CoCojax"), so I can't be
sure you are experiencing the exact same symptoms unless you tell me so.
Assuming the problem is that Windows Mail repeatedly asks for you to
enter the username and password, it sounds like you've done pretty much
everything I would have suggested. To reiterate:
1. Use the special removal utilities for McAfee and Norton antivirus.
2. Install Avast (or AVG) antivirus using the custom method which doesn't
install the mail checking module.
3. Deleted that mail account, restart Windows Mail, recreate the account.

Is it possible that the request for username and password is NOT coming from
Windows Mail, but, instead, is coming from the subscriber's ISP or email
provider?
After all, Windows Mail is NOT an email server -- it's just an application
that provides access to your email provider's servers.
I can access my email in two ways:
-- Directly over the web to the ISP server, or,
-- Through Windows Mail.
A couple of days ago I accessed my email over the Web and was fiddling
around with the settings -- I inadvertently changed my username. Next time
I tried to access my email through Windows Mail, Windows Mail asked me for
username and password -- drove me crazy -- I couldn't log in no matter what
I did -- I called tech support and they found my problem, reset my username
to where it was before I changed it.
Re: Windows Vista Mail asking for logon information now
It is usually quite evident from the symptoms whether the problem is
local (your computer), or at your mail provider's server.
