Re-setting default program for attachments

I have Vista 32 bit. Also have MS Office 2007. Attachemnts with a *.doc
extension are opened with Microsoft Word Processor *.msp. I want to open
these files with MS Office Word instead.

I went to Default , Program associations and tried to switch to MS Office
Word. The icon was available ( as was that for MSP) I clicked on my
preference and exited only to find that this change was not recognised and I
am back to MSP.

Tried this 3 times including a restart. Nothing worked.

Qu Is it possible to switch from MSP for *.doc file and if so how?

What is "msp"?

*.msp is the file tag for Microsoft Works Word Processor documents

Umm no - according to www.filext.com the extension msp is anything BUT
Works. I always thought Works WP is .wps isn't it?

Save a .doc to your HDD. Right-click on it and choose Open With. Select Word
and make sure that the box "Always Open etc etc" at the bottom of the box is
checked.

The file extension for Works word processor documents is .wps, see
