windows mail error message...please help

after spending many painful hours getting wireless internet to my
aunties computer and sorting out the mail, i got everything
sorted...well i thought so until tonight...she rang me to say she was
getting a message when she tried to get into mail...it reads:

-'windows mail could not be started because another instance of it is
still running on your PC. Please log off windows and restart windows
mail. If problems persist save your work and then restart your
computer-'

Please someone help me i cannot face another trip to her house to sort
this out!!!!..i did suggest deleting the shortcut on her desktop( she
hasn't done that yet), and she tried the logging out thing but the same
message came up.......I am affraid to say that i am a hardened MAC girl
and know just about zero about windows (she thinks i am a computer
genius...yeah right)

Re: windows mail error message...please help
That type of problem is usually caused by interference from a non-
compatible antivirus program. Which antivirus is she running?
As a minimum, email scanning in the antivirus must be turned off,
although that may not be sufficient to eliminate all bad effects.
In a worst case scenario, the antivirus may need to be uninstalled.

If turning off the antivirus email scanning function does not resolve
the problem, consider upgrading to Windows Live Mail, because it
is less prone to suffering bad effects from overly intrusive antivirus
programs: http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

Email scanning in any antivirus must be disabled, for reasons
explained here:

Re: windows mail error message...please help

Thank you for that, she has Norman spyware, which came with the laptop,
then last week i installed a spybot for her because after downloading
google earth i could not get rid of this window which said, Google end
user license agreement, so this spybot thing deleted it for me. I have
no idea what make it was, Oh and while i am here you could help me with
something else if you don't mind, an alarm sound keeps going of when
connected to the internet and the 'Norman' security 'thing' flashes up,
saying something to do with a virus?????

how do i turn off email scanning in the security program????? sorry
for such rudimentery information, as i said in my previous post, i know
next to nothing about windows, which is more than my auntie, so between
us we are are right pair!!!!!!

I'm afraid it is not possible for the responders here to be familiar
with the settings of every security program. You will have to
search through all the settings in that Norman security program,
or else ask their customer service for help.

You're very welcome.

Note: It is customary here to quote the message one is replying to.
