Like many posts - can recieve email but not send it
I haven't seen an answer that works for me yet. I know the problem started
after service pack one was installed in vista.
Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.central.cox.net', Server:
'smtp.central.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC15
I have a Trend Micro PC-cillin antiv-rus that has run out (well before the
SP1 upgrade), and I'm unable to unistall it. That may be the problem. New
to Vista, but wonder if there is a safe mode I can uninstall it from?
Any ideas?

Re: how do i set default email on windows mail
Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on "Windows
Mail". If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

Trend Micro antivirus could well be the cause of your problem.
Contact Trend Micro tech support and ask for uninstall help.

Thanks Frank,
I did that and it responded that it was sucessful, but after restarting I'm
getting the same error:
Subject 'test', Account: 'pop.central.cox.net', Server:
'smtp.central.cox.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error
Number: 0x800CCC15
I'll try to get rig of the PC-cilling. Wit my mouse over the little Icon,
it continuously says (loading...).

Hi Gary,
Uninstalling the anitvirus software worked. No telling what messed it up in
SP1.
Thanks,
Mike

I am seeing Account: 'pop.central.cox.net' as your account information and
this would not be the true account on the computer. It would normally be
the email address that Cox has provided you with. You have a setup issue
with your account name somewhere in the Account properties. Since I haven't
got Windows Mail currently available I can't walk you through it but IIRC it
is similar to OE in XP. So lets see how close it is: Open the Account
properties and look at the full email address under the User information and
it should be xxxxx.central.cox.net where the xxxx is the name they gave you
as your email address. Under your outgoing mail server it should also have
your email address along with your password. Again, unfortunately I don't
have Windows mail available so you may have to look for them.
pop.central.cox.net is not a valid email account name however. That would
be the pop address for receiving emails.

In addition to my previous look here for comcast's step by step setup
instructions. Granted this is for OE but should work in WM
