Windows Mail Slowing down over past 2 days
Howdy all
Over the past 2 days Windows Mail on Vista Business for me has become
extremely slow and pokey.Just to click from one message to read another takes
appx 5 seconds. This never happened to me before and has only started since
saturday or sunday.I never had speed problems before with mail,I thought it
was as fast as xp outlook express mostly. No new software installs for
me,everything is the same as its been for weeks. I did DL a new junk mail
update from MS on saturday but thats it.

The more posts you download and the more email you receive,
the more WinMail starts to choke. Windows Mail is absolutely horrible.
I am bewildered why it was ever released in this condition. There's
no excuse. None.

Re: Windows Mail Slowing down over past 2 days
I use Windows Mail for newsgroups and one email account. At first, I didn't
know what all the fuss was about. Now, after 1000 incoming messages and a
whole lot of usenet posts, it does go very slow. From group to group, as
well as going to the inbox...

Yes, it does need a fix.

Thankfully, I use Outlook for email. I couldn't imagine having
to put up with WinMail for doing both.

Re: Windows Mail Slowing down over past 2 days
I have 9 email accounts, 650 MB in my local folders, and about 6000 messages
in newsgroups (mostly this one) and I find Windows Mail to be slow only
when:
1. Clicking "Mark All as Read" in a newsgroup with many messages (though
Outlook Express was about as slow doing this)
2. Sending a message with a recipient whose address needs to be looked up
in Windows Contacts (Outlook Express was much faster at this).

I saw much worse slowness on a computer on which I did an upgrade install of
Vista, but after doing a clean install it was fine.

Re: Windows Mail Slowing down over past 2 days
I haven't noticed any slowdown, but that could be due to a setting
I use (under Maintenance) "Delete news messages 8 days
after being downloaded."
Also, I don't let emails pile up in the system folders (Inbox,
Sent Items, Deleted Items).

Re: Windows Mail Slowing down over past 2 days
Well, thing is I dont use it for newsgroups at all.I use it only for mail and
I delete all of my mail after I read it,I have 3 or 4 messages all text, saved
in my drafts folder, but the other folders are completely empty. Just going
between 2 messages takes 4 or 5 seconds,it never used to do this ever since I
have had vista I have had no slow down or other trouble with it.

Re: Windows Mail Slowing down over past 2 days
I use Outlook 2007 for 3 other email addresses, which get a lot of SPAM.
Thunderbird has 1 email address, and Windows Mail has 1 plus the newsgroups.

I also use Thunderbird (portable) for newsgroups. Why all three? So I can
learn them and play with them.

I forgot:
3. Searching for an email seems slow. There is a pause before anything
seems to happen.

Seems pretty fast.
