Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Good afternoon, I tried to connect my VTXmail account to Windows Mail. I
receive messages, but I'm not able to send them.

The error message I get is:

The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'test', Account:
'pop.vtxmail.ch', Server: 'smtp.vtxmail.ch', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

What do I do wrongly?

Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Vtxmail.ch is probably not your ISP. As such, your home ISP will block
your use of any port 25 SMTP server other than their own.
For an explanation of this policy, see
http://www.postcastserver.com/help/P..._Blocking.aspx

To send from home, you will have to substitute your home ISP's
SMTP server. If you need help with that, let us know who your
home ISP is.

I would appreciate help, I'm not really an internet specialist, sorry. We use
AT&T.

Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Which part of AT&T? For most parts, one of the following should
contain information you need. However, you may still need
information on how to receive your email from one ISP but send it
through another.

http://helpme.att.net/article.php?item=10918

http://dslhelp.att.net/docs/use/emai...&platform=none

The bellsouth.net part of AT&T almost hides their information on
how to set up email under Windows Mail. Look under Internet
Explorer first, then Outlook Express. Most of the instructions
for Windows Mail are the same as for Outlook Express, but look
for the part applying to Windows Mail only at the bottom.

Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Probably I didn't respond Gary's question correctly. We pay AT&T Bellsouth
for having Broadband Internet. I thought you meant this when asking for
ISP...

I download my @bellsouth.com to Windows Mail and it is working correctly.

I only have problems with my @vtxmail.ch. Do I have to choose another Server
Port Number?

Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Thanks for clarifying which division of AT&T you are with. It makes a
difference. Since you already have your Bellsouth account set up in
Windows Mail, that will help.

1. Go to Tools, Accounts, select the Bellsouth account, Properties,
Servers. Write down the name of the outgoing (SMTP) server.
Notice whether "My server requires authentication" is checked.
Then go to the Advanced tab, and write down the port number and
SSL option (checked or not checked) for the outgoing server only.

2. Then go back to the screen where you select Accounts. Select the
Vtxmail account, then click Properties, Servers. Replace
smtp.vtxmail.ch with the name of the Bellsouth SMTP server.

3. Perform this step only if "My server requires authentication"
was found enabled in step 1. (If it was not enabled for Bellsouth,
unselect it also in this Vtxmail account, then go on to step 4.)
Click the adjacent "Settings" button. Select "Log on using"
then enter your Bellsouth mail account credentials.

4. Go to the Advanced tab and match the port and SSL setting
you found in step 1 for the outgoing Bellsouth server. Click OK.

Try sending.

Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Then AT&T Bellsouth is your ISP.

If you need a more direct route to the email instructions for the
bellsouth.net
part of AT&T, try:

<http://support.att.net/bellsouth/asp/UserTypeSelect.asp?referer=/bellsouth/asp/contentview.asp&sprt_cid=24dbf61a%2D2ce9%2D4192%2D a589%2D121587e364c2&isbrowse=true&source=2>

I'm not sure if AT&T also has a bellsouth.com part.

You may need to wait for Gary to tell you how to combine these
instructions with your @vtxmail.ch instructions to make an email
account that downloads mail from your @vtxmail.ch account, but
uploads any replies or new messages to your Bellsouth account
instead - I don't remember how.

On the other hand, if the @vtxmail.ch instructions tell you how to
use some other port instead, you may not need to wait for him to
answer. However, most ISPs allow uploading email through very
few of the over 65,000 ports available, so just trying them all is
usually a very slow way to find out which ones will let you upload
email, and seldom helps with the different settings most such
connections need to allow you to upload email.
