Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Okay, I have comcast and am getting the exact same errors as previous
poster.
I don't understand why all of a sudden this is happening, I've changed
NOTHING as far as settings since I got the laptop 2 years ago! But, the
last couple of days NONE of my outgoing mail...goes. Incoming is okay.
I've checked the settings and they look the same to me.. can someone
please help me figure out how to fix this (the unsent e-mail are piling
up!).
Thanks,
DHughes
Here's the error as shown after trying to send outgoing mail:
The connection to the server has failed. Subject 'Re: Monday morn',
Account: 'mail.comcast.net (3)', Server: 'smtp.comcast.net', Protocol:
SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number:
0x800CCC0E

Re: Socket Error 10060 when trying to send messages
Your wonderful ISP (Comcast) made some changes in their email
settings without advising the customers. Follow these steps:
http://www.comcast.com/Customers/FAQ...s.ashx?Id=2288
Note that the outgoing server now requires port 587 rather than port 25.
Also, "My server requires authentication" must be checked.
Although those instructions were written for Outlook Express,
Windows Mail uses the same settings.

Thanks a lot Gary!
I'm not surprised...Comcast has been just terrible, not just the
internet (which has been very slow to non-working for months), but my
phone has also had issues since August (no incoming calls, no outgoing
calls, no voice messages, on and on)...my cable tv reception is poor for
digital (tv repairman noticed without me mentioning what I thought), and
since the transition I can no longer use my vcr to tape programs.
I guess that is what they meant by TRIPLE PLAY!
Anyway, thanks so much for your help.. I've adjusted the port setting
and am now able to send outgoing messages.
Regards,
DHughes
