Folders could not be displayed
I am in DESPERATE need from someone who can help me. I am unable to view ANY
folder in my mail box even when it tells me there are new messages in them.
I have a ton of folders imported from OE that at one point I could view the
items and now I am unable. I also am unable to send or recieve any new mail.
All of this worked the first time I installed vista and then it started to
do what it is doing periocdically. I have disabled my virus, deleted the
account, recreated the account again (I use comcast mail) and to no avail.
Occasionally upon opening winmail, it will tell me an error has occured and
that something is wrong with my pop or smtp, however I know that is not true
because IT WORKED BEFORE and I have confirmed the settings....sorry for
draggin on but I am stumped and NO ONE seems to have any answers. Thank you
in advance for any advice. (I would copy the error # I have been given
however, winmail is currently not even doing that for me)

Re: Folders could not be displayed
Since we don't know how long it will take Microsoft to release
a permanent fix for Windows Mail, it would behoove people
who are having serious problems with it to start looking for
an alternate solution. If you have Outlook 2003 or 2007
available, use it, else try the free Thunderbird email program.

Re: Folders could not be displayed
Thanks for the help....do you know if there is anyway to get at the
information that I have in the folders that are on winmail now? Each and
every folder states it cant open although I know there are emails in the
folders that I imported from my old pc (that I dont have any longer).

Sorry, I don't have a solution for your unviewable folder problem.

Re: Folders could not be displayed
The "folders" are just directories of eml files, so you can go to the
message store (Tools | Options | Advanced | Maintenance | Store Folder) and
into the Local Folders and then access the inbox and other folders in
Explorer (you can adjust the columns and such to see Author and Subject and
such by right clicking on the column headers and choosing More).
I'd suggest you move everything under the Windows Mail directory to another
directory. Then WinMail will start fresh. Once you get it working again,
then you can try importing from the directory to which you moved the files,
or just going in and dragging the eml files from Explorer and dropping them
overtop a WinMail message list.
You'll have to play with it some to understand it, but then it should be
straightforward.

Re: Folders could not be displayed
Thank you so much for your help! Have you heard of any time line when
Microsoft may have an update for these probelms. I know there are other
issues with Vista but was curious if Winmail is at the top of the list to get
fixed.
Again, I appreciate ALL the input I have recieved.

They haven't said what the timeline is or what their priorities are.
